This time we're putting together upper and lower body extension for #swimmingprep and #swimming. Being sure to keep the abs engaged and the lumbar spine long, squeeze into the glutes to lift the legs and lift by extending through the upper back. Let the head and chest move with each arm, and keep the neck following the curve of the lumbar spine (I had to correct that myself on the first one!). Then enjoy some full body extension!

Focussed on holding our scoop last week so adding some weights into it today for an extra challenge and to put a little load on the shoulders...but great to do without weights if you don’t have them. We use @mirafitofficial ones, they’re good because they have a bit of squeeze to them for a good grip 😉🤭 And the bobble hat stays till spring now @bigbobblehats 
Give them a go, 8-10 reps on each, 12 on the obliques. Top tips below 👇🏻 •roll back + straight arm hold •roll back + arm lift •long leg roll back + oblique twist

Top tips...
✅ keep an even weight on your sits bones into the mat ✅ tilt pelvis back and pull belly button in to start the move and get the ‘scoop’ ✅ as you sit back tall, think about rolling forward so your shoulders come over your hips then stack the spine ✅ feet stuck to the floor at all time...unless your legs lifting of course!  #armsandabs #abworkout #pilatesabs

Haven’t we all been on an airplane, sitting in economy class, squished between two passengers?

Regardless of the lack of space to move around, there are still some exercises that you can do to prevent potential blood clots.

The exercises in the post can be done in a sitting position!

In Traditional Mat Full Body you will use light hand weights and your body weight with lots of compound moves, planks, down dog glute raises, triceps dips, side plank with biceps curls and a tough leg raise arm series. You will start with some explosive dynamic stretch moves to warm up, then move into single side exercises to full fatigue each side before switching. If you aren't careful about providing support and stability to the low back, then it could take over and you end up not getting any work into the glutes. Scoop those abs off the floor and make sure you squeeze the glute before you try to lift your leg. Focus on reaching the leg long, not high, like you have paint on your big toe and you're trying to get some on the wall behind you. As you move I to the flutter kick, only kick as high and as fast as you're able to maintain stability through the pelvis. If you start to shift and wiggle it means you've let go of your connection tion to your core. Pause, reengage, and try again.

Joseph Pilates named it as such as it is the “teaser” towards which all of the other moves build. It’s a terrific exercise for balance, flexibility and spinal mobility because it incorporates the entire core and back to keep you upright in a V position on your sits bones. 🥰🥰
